Job Central assists youth 15 – 30 years of age to find employment through group-based employability skills training and a work experience placement. The program, organized by Youth Employment Services (YES), provides holistic services for youth who are out of school, unemployed and are facing barriers to finding a job.
Refugee newcomers qualify for this program, provided that they are not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.
The program begins with two to three weeks of group-based employability and life skills workshops. Youth receive minimum wage and TTC tokens. Upon successful completion of the training period, participants may qualify for a paid work placement, up to a maximum of ten weeks with the goal of permanent employment at the end of the placement period.
All youth selected for the program must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Canadian citizenship, permanent resident, or Convention Refugee status
- legally entitled to work in Canada
- not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits
