Start Your New Career with YWCA Women in Trades & Technology: Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program.

YWCA Toronto has partnered with the Terrazzo, Tile and Marble Training School (TTMTS), and the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development to bring you a unique, women-only pre-apprenticeship training program to become a commercial Terrazzo, Tile and Marble setter.

This program is not exclusively for newcomers.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

  • Trade Academic Upgrading • Job Readiness • Life Skills
    May 18 – May 29, 2020 // Monday through Thursday— 8a.m.–3p.m. // 2 weeks

    • Calculations, metric conversion of area, scale conversion, grammar, trade specific research data/reports, trade terminology, computer literacy, job readiness and life skills (self-management, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and communication skills)
  • Health and Safety Training
    June 1–5, 2020 // Monday through Friday— 7:30a.m.–4p.m. // 1 week

    • Safety training for the trade including Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) Working at Heights, WHMIS, Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps.
  • Level 1 Certificate
    • June 8 – July 17, 2020 // Monday through Friday— 7:30a.m.–4p.m. // 6 weeks
      Primary trade —Basic apprenticeship including hands-on projects at the Terrazzo, Tile and Marble Trade School
      (TTMTS) site application of skills, visit to employers.
  • Exposure Training
    July 20–31, 2020 // Monday through Friday— 7:30a.m.–4p.m. // 2 weeks
    Secondary trade
  • Paid Work Placement
    • August 4 – Sept 25, 2020 // Hours as required by employer // 8 weeks
      Paid work placement with local employer for this trade

ELIGIBILITY

  • Women, 16 years and older;
  • Minimum grade 10 education;
  • Resident of and able to work in Ontario;
  • Willing and able to commit to a 19-week, intensive training program;
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain a valid driver’s license;
  • Physically able to work in a variety of construction work environments and on their feet and knees for a considerable length of time; and
  • Possess appropriate hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity and ability to identify and follow design patterns
